Thumbs up What do you do in a traffic jam?

I was in my first traffic jam today. Newbee only 1,500 miles. I saw my options as:
Exit and get a tall one
Switch to run on one cylinder (never done this before)
Keep ride running and place both feet on the ground and wait
Turn ride off, sit on ride with jiffy stand down and relax or keep motor running
Drive down the openings between cars
Blast my little horn

Example is a controlled access highway, can not see ahead for miles, have gas,
all the time in the world.

I know the "Harley" way is to do what you want to do. But, I don't want to look stupid either.

I'm sure laws vary from state to state.

But, is EVER passing cars where there is an opening ever a good idea?

Split lanes! It's the only thing you can do in SoCal traffic...only thing I gotta watch for is catching my apes on an SUV mirror!

If stop and go i'll stay with traffic. If totally stopped either split cars and last resort the shoulder. Last resort on shoulder because of debris on shoulder has caused a flat tire in the past.

I first adjust my doo-rag,button my chaps tight, tuck in my $30 HD t shirt, rev my super loud unbaffled pipes, kick the door of some chick in a cage, and lane split with my 1% friends beside me.

AZ I just split lanes for the first time in 7 years. over 105 degrees. 0-5mph traffic for 7 miles held up for construction. Four or so other bikes were cutting as well, and even though it's probably not legal here, I was willing to pay a ticket if caught being that I was wearing my helmet, leather jacket and gloves etc...
I slowed when not enough room to pass, and five or six people even moved outta my way a bit.

When I lived in CA, I'd split when traffic was slower than 25-30mph on my sportbike with no issue.

Why not the left lane. Why pass on the shoulder. More chance of someone opening car door to take a leak!

I turn on my LeNale Engine Cooling Fan and don't worry about a thing.

And if I'm home in CA I'll split the lanes.

As a matter of fact, I've even split lanes in other states . People in other states really get bent out of shape though. I've had a few truckers squeeze me and try to run me off the road doing this. I just give them the Easy Rider salute and keep going.
