Default Check your tranny bolts

Saturday I noticed oil under the bike. Turns out that the two bolts that the exhaust bracket to the transmission had worked loose causing the leak. I tighten the bolts and it appears the fixed the leak.
Called my dealer and talked to the service manager. I asked him how many new bikes have they had with this issue. He told me 6 and that was 6 to many.
I wish that I had know about this issue when I changed cams as I would have pulled the bolts then and applied locktite. For now I hope the job I did tighting them with a long ball Allen will hold until this winter when I will pull the exhaust to gain access to those bolts
If you have a 2011 you should check those bolts to insure they are tight.

I had the same exact problem yesterday. I cut the end off an allen wrench so that I was able to remove the bolts, apply loctite and re-install them without removing the head pipe. Hopefully that takes care of it.

Very common problem. I cut down an allen wrench also, I did not use loctite but they have not come loose and it has been a couple years. I don't think they come loose, I think they were never tighened.

That is why they came out with the new torque procedures for those bolts!

I have fixed this problem on 4 bikes this year. The new bikes are easier to get at the bolts than the older (5 speed bikes) and I also use a cutoff allen. The ones I have done get a drop of red locktite.

Intake wrench/tool made by Kal I believe is small enough and will slip in w/clearance enough to tighten.

Seems to be a very common thing. I can't understand why some dealers try to tell us that they have never heard of it or that they have only seen it a couple of times. Those bolts came loose on my '09 after about 30,000 kilometres. I cut down an alan wrench and now keep it in my tool kit.

No offense intended but I think that blue loctite along with the new torque spec would be more than adequate. Red is too much in this application IMHO.

Oil on the ground seems to be the issue
