Just got a 2008 Street Glide about 5 days ago. I was riding it to grab a burger a few minutes ago, I noticed that the oil pressure was a little lower that it had been yesterday when I rode it. I got to the light down the street and when I stopped the oil pressure gauge went to 0. I turned off and as I reved the engine the pressure came back up. I pulled off and cut it off to check the oil it was a little low but not out. I put the cap on and turned around and came straight home. I've been around long enough to know that even on idle an engine should generate some oil pressure but as this is my first Harley I don't know if that rule applies to VTwins. I'm planning on driving to the harley dealer tomorrow to get a couple quarts of oil to have on hand.
My question Is this common with Harley's, and if it isn't what could the problem be?

Reason: Notification
When you say "0"...do you mean "0" oil pressure? Did the engine light come on too? HD pressure drops to ~5-6psi @ idle (1K) so it might look like it's not registering, but re-check your needle position on gauge & you'll probably see it's @ normal.
How many miles on the bike & do you know when oil was last changed?
There are 26700 miles on it. It could be at 5-6 but I'm not certain. I just saw that the gauge was at what I thought was 0 and I didn't want to do any damage to the motor. When it was running the pressure gauge was at about 32 psi
My co-worker came to me on Tuesday to tell me that his 07 Road Glide was showing 0 pressure at idle and lower pressure at speed. He took in into a dealer after work and they tested the pressure. Turn out he had 18 psi at idle and 36psi at higher rpm. They cleaned the contacts on the sending unit as well as the wire connecters.
He told me that now his Gage is reading correctly.
Worth trying to see if fixes your issue.
