Default Ohlin #3-1

I called Howard and was told to buy a Caliper from Harbor Freight would be helpful and to read up on his website. I want to thank him for that as I had no idea about shocks and what I wanted.
a few weeks go by and after reading every pdf file on Howard's website and every thread on this site I called Howard and ordered the #3-1's. I have a FLHRSE3 and wanted to maintain the 1 inch lowered height.
the shocks were delivered and they are beautiful!!! Called Howard a couple hours later and he walked me through the install and was told to go ride the bike and call him back. I was only able to ride a few miles but could tell a hudge difference.
I'm a primary caregiver for a parent who is on Hospice so it's hard for me to get out and ride right now but I'll finish this review in the next few weeks.
for now I just want to thank Howard and I will finish this review soon

Steve

I put Ohlins (which I bought from Howard) on my FXDL about a year and a half ago. Great shocks! You made a great decision.

Give them about 1000 miles then recheck the rider sag and try 14 or 15 clicks on the value. I love mine

I have a 2008 Road King Classic that I put on Ohlins (2-2A). I also got them from Howard. What a difference especially in the corners hitting bumps. I also put on some Ricor intiminators and this really help the jarring I used to feel in the handle bars.

I'm finally back on my bike. Talked to Howard yesterday and he had me close the damping and come back 14 clicks and put a zip tie on the right shock. Now I'm zeroing in on a great ride. Every time we stop and adjust the ride gets better and better. The ride is so good now and I still have a bit more adjusting to do. My review is: I LOVE MY Ohlin 3-1's
And Howard has always been there to help with the set up.
My new hip loves Ohlin Shocks

Great to hear Steve, glad the hip replacement went well! I bought the #3 #3's from Howard and installed them last week, what a difference! Should have done this upgrade before my last ride to Sturgis!

fabrik8r Hi Bro, there has never been plastic spring pre-load collars on an Ohlins. Ohlins uses DelrinŽ collars so the springs can turn easier (reduced friction) when the shock is moving up or down. Some racers use a greased washer on each side of the spring, Ohlins uses a naturally lubricated Dupont material to achieve this. The collars are more expensive to produce. The reason why some people break these is because they "push" the tool in a straight line in place of a circle. The pin moves further out of the hole until it has enough leverage to split the color. Due to the Harley customer base I service, it was decided to go with a traditional aluminum spring collar so when they break he customer knows just what happened.

I use the DelrinŽ collars on my own bike which has the #6 shocks. I take my time and watch what I am doing when setting the spring pre-load. We decided that we change the pre-load collar to our HD clients. We utilize these collars on race bikes.

I did just what Howard describes above. I was 355 miles from home and I cracked the Delrin collar. I called Howard and he was very helpful and he told me what to do so the collar would not come apart and I had a great weekend and made it home. And I'm still riding with the cracked collar. Thanks Howard
