Standard practice is to replace valve stems when the tires are changed, the tech should have known this.
I would agree.
I brought my wheels last week to dealer for new tires and I made the point to ask them to change the valve stems. He looked at me like it was a dumb question and I kind of figured they would change them but decided I needed to say it just to make sure, so everyone is on the same page.
Lesson learned for you ultranutz. Just say it, even if it should be obvious what should be done.
dang I have never changed a valve stem and do all my own tire changes. I look at the stem and if it looks good I keep using it. I had over 80000 on my 04 egc and over 15000 on my 11 rgu. not sure why it would have to be changed every time if it shows no damage. what would be the difference in a 4 year old stem that had 100000 miles vs a 4 year old stem that had 10000 miles?
My son lost pressure in a rear tire several yrs.ago after having the tire
installed at the dealer. He had requested that the stem be reeplaced,
but was NOT! He now cuts the stem out before takeing the rim in for a
tire replacement....Tenn.Vol.
