46 years old with salt and pepper beard... Had a '03 Heritage which was, IMHO, a better looking bike and more "fun" around town... But traded that for the Ultra a year ago, because of same situation you have (more miles, longer trips w/ wife, etc...) and haven't regretted that decision for the touring aspect.

What is fun is having the Stage 1 with a mechanic who did a good dyno -- and the Ultra is anything but a highway barge. Still fun, better ride, comfortable, and with all the amenities to make a long trip much more enjoyable -- both at the time and when you dismount.

Have your friend ride the back of the Heritage -- then ride the back of the E/G. Then ask her which she would make the ride of choice for 8-10 hours in the saddle... We'll see who is the "geezer" then.

OK, I've got all of you beat.

25 = 06' Street Glide

26 = 06' Ultra

Beautiful machine, especially for 2. I would like something smaller for around town though.

ORIGINAL: Detour

I was on an 8 hour ride with some friends today and during a lunch break I mentioned that my next bike will be an Ultra Classic Electra Glide. One of the gals in the group said that I was "too young" to ride "one of those". I laughed at the comment and asked her how old you had to be to ride one? She said to wait until I'm 60 and have a grey beard! Well, I'm 45 years old and would have a grey beard, if I could grow a full one without any bald patches, so maybe I would pass part of the qualification.

My question is, and forgive me for even asking, how old are the riders of Electra Glides on this site? I'd love to prove her wrong, as I don't believe you have to be any particular age to ride one. I think they're awesome bikes, and besides, 60 years of age is still pretty young, in my opinion!

Put that gal on the back of a glide, and she will NEVER want to be on the back of anything else.

You can not beat the Glide for long rides. Comfort is unsurpassed, performance is awesome, and having a radio is a plus. Lots of space for gear, easy to ride, easy to handle, and awesome to look at.

46 with an '06 Ultra. Been riding an Ultra since '01. The people that knock 'em haven't riden 'em. After doing a 100 miles on my Shovel or Pan or the wifes softail .... 500 miles on an Ultra is like heaven.

35ish and on my first hog = '06 EGlide. Absolutely love it. [sm=biker.gif]

Spent my whole life on sportbikes from my first Interceptor 500 back in '87 through a whole bunch of GSXRs, FZs, FJs, and CBRs. Now I just have to remind myself it's ~not~ a sportbike when the turns show up!
