Question on Recall Notices
I was on the HD web site and had ordered the service manual for my Road King. When logging out, I was presented with a notice of a recall. So, I clicked the link and found a current recall notice that goes something like this -
0141:RCL:09-10 TRING FRT FL / TNK MTS
There was no explanation nor a link to another page that describes the recall, only that I should hurry on down to the dealer to get the fix. So, the question is does anyone know of a website that decodes these notices? I haven't found one as yet and I did try (just not too hard yet, I have to go to the dentist in a few minutes). The dealer I use is 70 miles away, so the hurrying on down part will have to wait a bit.

there is a minor change to the front tank mounts, next time you are headed for the dealer, call ahead and ask if they can do it. takes minutes.
the recall is in case of accident, possibility that the mount can be driven into the tank piercing it.
no big deal
there are also service bulletins from time to time which record running changes to manufacture, parts, service procedures etc.
these are difficult to be made aware of and often only revealed to the rest of us by a dealer tech.
one is m1528 which is the "recall" on the front dunlop 407, replacing with a 408
another is new torque specs for the tranny end cover bolts, which can loosen allowing tranny lube to drip on the exhaust ( and "un-lube" the tranny)- the new spec in 20~23 foot pounds.
mine were way loose, especially the 2 that held the exhaust mount

Thank you gentlemen. I suspected it was something about the tank (TNK MTS), but didn't know for sure. I also didn't know about the new torque specs. But, I recently had both tires replaced due to wear and a nail in the front. Had 15k on the two and the rear was showing signs of wear. But there was no evidence of any dripping lubricant on the exhaust or these guys would have let me know. The dealer I use is pretty good for the most part - they have to make a living too, but their prices are usually reasonable and are lower than a closer dealer that I don't use.

Harley-Davidson is recalling about 308,000 motorcycles to fix a switch problem that can cause failure of the brake lights and possibly even the rear brakes themselves.
The company says in government documents that brake light switches can be exposed to too much heat from the exhaust system. The brake lights can fail, and the problem also can cause fluid leaks and the loss of rear brakes.
The problem affects Touring, CVO Touring and Trike vehicles from the 2009 through 2012 model years.
