Default RKC Fairing...What's The Correct Height?

I bought my RKC about a year and a half ago. It came with 2 shields. The stocker that wasn't mounted to the bike mounts and a Memphis Shades that is 4 1/2" shorter than the stocker. I have never used the fairing on this bike, until the other morning. I got to thinking that using it in the cold mornings would make my ride to work a little more comfortable.

So I slapped on the shorter Memphis Shades one and went to work. I noticed the wind was hitting me right in the throat. I could feel the turbulence right under my helmet. I wear a full face helmet going to work since it's been colder and I'm riding in the dark. During the day, I run a half helmet.

I pretty much determined that the Memphis Shades is too short, so I bolted up the stock shield. The Memphis was just below my chin and the stocker is hitting me right at the eyes. I will give the stocker a test run to work tomorrow. The Memphis Shades looks like a very well built shield, compared to the stocker, and it's tinted a tad, but it seems just too short.

My question is what is the correct measurement to where the top of the shield should hit? I am 6'4" with a 34" inseam and my seat drops me down on the bike. Having a shield did make a big difference at speed on the freeway...except for my head wanting to wobble around quite a bit. 5:30am is too early for head wobble!! LOL!!!

Thanks for the info!!

I have found with my adjustable windshield that the sweet spot is about 2 inches below my eyes. So I can just see over it. There is very little wind,I can almost light a smoke at 50 mph

I've ridden with a fairing or windshield for over 40 years now. The rule of thumb for height is nose high. That way you can sit upright and see over it or slump and look through it! When the weather is poor or raining and the shield is partially obscured it is essential to be able to see over.

You are a good deal taller than me. As a relative short-*** I was able to buy the biggest stock shield for my batwing and trim it, which gives me much reduced buffeting. There are windshield brands out there with alternative shapes that may improve your ride.

The re-curve design shields should be between the tip of your nose and mouth. Or, about 2 inches below the eyes, as stated above. Stock shields do not have the recurve and will not kick the wind upward, so if you're looking over your shield, you will still get some wind. Should be fine if you're looking through it, if that is okay with you to do. If you want to try out a re-curve design, pm me and I'll set you up. You will have 3 shields, and that sucks because your other 2 will collect dust on your shelf.

My stock is 21", which I tried out this morning and will try again in about 20 minutes. I still felt "buffetting", just not as bad. I'm going to have my girlfriend help me with some measurements tonight and see where we line up. My guess is about the nose. I like your shields with the flip up on top, that may make a world of difference.

Again, Im new at this shield thing, but I want to be able to ride more in the winter to work and am sure it will help!

I will let you know where my measurements come in.

Thanks!!
