New to this sight, glad I found it. Ive got an 05 flhr, here's the skinny, When at a stop light the little red key "security light" comes on and off sometimes. Of course every dealer in the area is booked up for weeks. (Harley service really sucks). My question is, has anyone seen this before? Is this gonna mess with my security system and leave me stranded some where by possibly not allowing the bike to start? The local dealer has had my bike for a week already because they say they will try to fit it in as soon as possible, but the next available appointment is still almost 2 weeks out. Missing out on some of the best riding of the year, I cant believe Harley doesnt put any priority on warranty work on new bikes.
I have a Electronic Diagnostic manual for an 05 Road king. On Page 3-39 it states
When the Ignition/Light Key Switch is turned to IGNITION the security lamp should eliminate for 4 seconds. Following the initial period of illumination, the lamp should go off for 4 seconds. It may come back on for an 8 second period, indicating a historic diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or remain on, indicating a current DTC.
It could be something as simple as a bad start, not holding the button long enough to start , or a kick back, etc. This stores a code in the memory. There are current and historic codes. If you have a code that is not associated with a current problem , it will go away after 50 starts of at least 30 seconds each by itself.
Here's the proceedure for checking if a code is stored and what it means. Good Luck!
