Jason, received my thermal switch today. Thanks Cant wait to install with my new build, hope I wont have anymore heat issues. Quick question, you said the directions have been updated. I have a copy I downloaded from you back when I was considering this install. The date I believe was 4-12, is that the most up to date version? Very well laid out with pics, easy to follow, I just want to make sure the part about installing the thermal switch is correct. Thanks again
No published updates yet, the directions are good I just want to put more emphasis on the orientation and "seating" force. the switch housing is metal, if it is distorted on the install it will affect the calibrated switch temperature, it really doesn't need pushed in until it wont go any further, just put a little RTV on it and push it into place, the RTV will hold it and it will function properly even if it is barely held between the fins.
My fans also tap the motor over bumps but I plan on fixing it with a shim tomorrow.
Where are the thermal switch install instructions located on the website? What do I have to click on?
My website uses "hover" dropdown menus; place you cursor over the word "PRODUCTS", another menu drop down will appear, slide the cursor down to "cooling Fans" another drop down menu will appear slightly to the right, move your cursor to the right and down to "Thermal switch install" and click on it, you will be directed to a page with downloadable PDF install instructions. The sheet I send with the fans recommends a procedure to verify clearance immediately after initial install, if you have contact it can be corrected by several methods.
Ordered my fans on Saturday, received them on Wednesday and had them installed in 30 minutes or so. Love their quality and functionality and thank you for the superior service!! One question, though, the fans are listed as being water resistant on your website. Do you recommend covering them when washing the bike?

Not necessary to cover them, just don't flood them with the hose or use the pressure washer on them.
Received my switch yesterday and installed the switch and fans yesterday afternoon. I am glad I got the chrome model, works well with my Airwing horn cover. I'll post some pics later.
If you install the switch improperly; how does it malfunction? Never come on or come on too much?
I have not yet isolated a definite cause, but working on it. Anyway, what usually happens with a switch failure is the calibration temp gets lower, the fans come on sooner, stay on longer after shutdown and a couple completely failed in the closed '"on" position. there is a small calibration dimple in the metal housing that sets the gap between the contacts inside, if the housing gets distorted it alters that gap. I have one switch analyzed by the MFR lab so far but the results from that one suggest that AC current is bleeding through the system and causing an arcing deposit to build up between the contacts and slowly reduce the gap, I'm not an electrical engineer so I really can't comment any further, just offering what I know at this point. I do know that this set up has performed flawlessly on many more bikes than have had issues, so I'm confident it can be corrected by one or several measures. Hang in there, I'll get it worked out, just another challenge.
Jason
I will try gently bending the mount. I have the largest shim I can already and still allow the nut to hold. The bike is new CVO 2013 but I already put progressive 940 on the rear and progressive mono tube kit in the front. I'm betting a lot of these hit the engine at times. I dont see how they can't to be honest. There is very little room between the fans and. Cooling fins and the rubber mount for the horn moves a bit more with the weight of the fans. Second question. I have a power vision mounted to my bike. Fans turn on when the temp reads well below 190. Sometime even in the 160's. Is the thermal switch supposed to be pushed in all the way in the spot shown on the web site? I am wondering if they come on too soon. It in the 60's here and they come on very quickly and stay on. Wondering if I may have the thermal switch pressed in too far, right up against the engine between the fins. Using the power vision to monitor temp. At what engine temp roughly should they come on? Thanks Joe
I think I remember the temperature coming on being around 190*. The temp comes kind of quickly on these air cooled engines we have. When you are using your PV in Gauge Mode monitor the ET. In the fall and early spring when temps are in the 40s and 50s my ETs are always greater then 230*.
