Default Roadside Assistance - 600 mi tow?

My wife and I are planning an extended trip on the bike touring Newfoundland next summer. There is one (count them on one finger) dealer in the province - in Mount Pearl at the eastern extremity of the island. Places on the island can be as much as 1100 km/650 mi from this dealer. Regular HOG membership pays up to $100 toward a tow (basically useless anywhere). Through Road America this can be upgraded by $19.95 to cover full cost of towing to the "nearest dealer". $29.95 will give you that and "emergency travel expense reimbursement", whatever they deem that to be I guess, there's no details I can find on their site.

I checked CAA (basically the same as AAA) - their plus coverage has a tow limit of 160 km/100 mi. Nothing on the site about travel expenses.

I'm not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination. Other than something obvious I'd be lost. I'm wondering what would be my best protection if we're in say, St. Anthony and the bike goes for a crap. Stuck in the middle of (beautiful) nowhere with no bike mechanics anywhere within hundreds of miles. Would the HOG/RA coverage pay full costs to have the bike taken to Mile One HD in Mt Pearl - about 650 mi (have a look at a map)? Would the $29.95 coverage put us up and get us there as well? If so, $30 is cheap for the piece of mind.

Any other insurance out there that would cove both the bike and ourselves without any hassle?

(Must be nice to have 4 or 5 HD dealers all within towing distance.)

When I tried previously to follow the link from the Road America site to terms and conditions I kept getting sent back from the same page. I was trying to open it in a new tab. Now I see with a direct click it takes you to:
http://https://www.road-america.com/enrollment/templates/HOG/docs/Terms%20Ultra.pdf
Reading that it seems there would be coverage for the tow and up to $1000 ($334/day) for accommodations and travel.

So... it seems they're saying they cover situations like this. But, how reliable/ dependable are they?

And, HOG 0308, thanks for the helpful tip. Of course, where I live is not the issue; it's where I'm GOING. Of course if you hang around home all the time there's no need of any of this.

Just call the road america people for details-- or the Dealer at Mt Pearl, I bet they have experience with this

I had their $20 upgraded and it handily covered a couple of tows 60 and 80 miles ( nearest dealer).

i have since extended coverage to my cars and truck and done away with AAA/CAA

Does your insurance offer a towing and labor. I have progressive and I added that coverage but frankly I don't know what limit there might be to distance. Something I should check on.

I have the $20 upgrade, and had all kinds of grief at 3am on the side of the road while they tried to decide which if 3 dealers I was closest to. Tow truck driver asked which one and told me not to worry about the rest, he would handle it for me. Never got a bill, or any problems from it....sure was pissed on the phone for almost 30mins while some lady tried to find me for sure on her map.....

I have the Road America extended coverage. I used it twice for my car but not for the bike. It is unlimited coverage(I spoke on the phone to them). I pay the $29.95 per year. To me it's well worth it. I do lots of trips and it's good piece of mind.

Allstate/KOA RV Roadhelp. 1-800-786-2277 A little more expensive, but it covers anything you're drivin', & will tow you whatever distance is needed.

Good suggestions, everyone! I do alot of long day trips and have some weeklong trips planned for the spring. I had not given any serious thought to the Roadside Assistance program and just took what HOG gave me. Based on your advice, I am upgrading to the $29 Ultra program for the added piece of mind since I am often quite a ways from a dealer.

Thanks!
