Hey guys been thinking about pulling the trigger on a Streetglide for a LONG time. Just hard to do it. I still have my 06 FXST that I bought new and its just got 10K miles on it. Got married last year and the wife wants to ride more and I do too but the FXST just is not comfortable to do it.....its lowered and has more of a drag style bar on it. I did a hint of research and seems the 09 up FLHX is the best choice due to frame design. Would like to just buy new again and trade the FXST off since they are worth NOTHING on the market....be lucky to get 50% back I think. BUT in the same breath there are some killer deals on one year old used stuff, or even last years model at the dealer.
Ive seen the 96 vs 103 debate and think its a wash and I guess there is a 120R out there now? WOW! Just wondering if maybe a certain year is better if I were to buy used. Any thoughts, comments, suggestions are certainly appreciated.
I wouldn't pass on a 08 either, that's the first year with the big tank but still the small rear tire. The 09 and newer seem to be more in demand and will cost you more. I don't see a real performance advantage of a 103, but I guess it has more performance potential.
The 09 and newer models have the new frame. There are many who like the new frame and many who don't. I do. I have a 2010, the difference in 2010 was that the cat was moved from the slip ons to the headers and a single exhaust. I have replaced my entire exhaust going to TDs. In 2011 the X went back to true duals on the header. If you can score a 103 motor on the new frame. I would really look at that.
If I were gona upgrade the motor anyway would I be money in the bank to just get a 96"? Not saying I would but just wondering. Im gettin a little older and haulin ***** is noy quite as important.....thats what the racecar is for! Lol
My main concern is trying to get rid of my 06. If I trade it in I can take a little more hit on it due to not paying as much tax. The 06 is paid for but dont have a need for two bikes. Also the money from my old bike would knock a CHUNK out of my payment.
When I was looking to sell my 2006 SG, I checked the sells from various sites to check price. Just 3 months ago I found some killer deals (12-13k) for some with less than 5000 miles with lots of extras. I had put 80k on my 2006 and loved every mile. I think ANY year could make you very happy. I bought a used 2010. Great bike.
Depends on how much you want to spend. They all have good and bad points. I got a 07 since that's what I could afford. I'm not sorry about getting it. Still got my fxdc but it will be replaced by another SG for the wife.
Find an 06 mdl. Last year for the 88ci, no TBW, no cat, no abs, no limp mode, no O2 sensors, no unbearable heat on passengers right foot, Harmon Kardon stereo. New frame in 09 isn't worth the price difference. The bigger back tire is nice but how much are you willing to pay for it? Check the price on that tire, its expensive!
I had the same thing happen to me. Traded my 09 fatboy for a 2011 sg. Fatboy had a 96 in it. The sg has a 103 in it and It feels faster. But that could just be gearing. I know she is alot happier on the back and its a better drive for me
The difference is not in any 1 area, it's the entire thing.
1..The frame is better, the wiggle when pushed in corners is much less. The bike plain and simple feels more stable.
2..the fatter rear tires looks much better. As does the whole tail section. The older models look small.
3..the Brembo brakes are a night and day difference.
4..ABS is just plain smart.
5..6 gallon tank is a good thing.
6..08's and earlier are worth less and always will be now that the new ones are out.
7..06's are even worse. 88" 5 speed and half are carb'd.
Some people will nay say till the cows come home, most of them would rather drive a 86 chevy pick up rather than a new diesel. Technology can be hard to accept.
IMO, prices even, you'd take the 09-up all day long.
