Depending on how far I plan to go, and what time I leave. I try to keep one day trips to 500 to 600 miles, stoping every 120 - 150 miles to stay fresh. If I had a 700 mile trip, I would probably leave a little earlier to make it one day, 800, I'd go ahead and make it two for sure if the wife is with me. Alone I can ride from before sun up until after sun down, but I will set my limit at 14hrs, not trying to set any records, and a well rested and alert rider is a good thing.

Trial and error, go find out. Don't push your passenger too much or she may never do it again, she will be your limiting factor. We like to get an early start and stop fairly early for the night and also stop and smell the roses. Alone or with my buddies I go at least 600 miles a day, but maybe half that with the wife.

Air temps mean lot too. 500 mi at 80* is not near as far as 500 mi at 100*. My wife and I did 800 mi ONCE. It made for a very long day but much of the ride was enjoyable. She told me the other day we should do an iron butt before it gets hot again. I'm 65 and she will soon be 70. I started riding at age 12 and her first ride was in 2008. I can't get out of the fuggin house without her. My first three wives pretty much refused to ride at all. Finally found a winner. We have found 300- 500 mi a day is usually enough.

if it's a trip that'd be about 500-600 total, I'd try to knock it out in one day.
If I know it's going to be at least 1 night's stop, I'll usually do 8-10 hours total.

Most I've done is about 620.

It's more a matter of 'hours in the saddle' than it is 'miles in a day'.......
Let your (or your wife's) comfort factor dictate how far you can travel....

my longest day was leaving Amarillo, TX at 10 am and getting back to southern, il at 130 am. on a nighttrain with a stock seat and no windscreen. only good thing about the trip was the fact that it made me upgrade to the Road Glide.

Same here, both people need to enjoy the ride.

We'll crank off 800 miles of interstate without thinking about it, assuming that it's not raining or snowing (or hailing). By myself I've done around 1,200 or so, but that was really pushing it.

It all depends on how far we are going, usually we do as most others here, 500-600 in a day. If our trip was just another 100 miles or so, like 700-750 miles then we would finish it out, but if it were 1000 we would do two 500 mile days.
