700 miles is the most I will do in a day. Stopping every 100-200 miles to stretch the legs and get some fluids/loose some fluids. However, for a truly enjoyable ride especially for the passenger I would keep it at 500-600 mi
most i have done in a day is 1523, course i am an IBA member, and that was just shy of 24 hours, however i find that the older i get the longer i ride. So typical day is 600 to 800 miles. i sometime ride a 500 mile round trip just to have lunch with a couple of my riding buds that live south of me.
With the wife, it is usually different, 300 miles is a good range, although she did do a 700 mile day with me once and did not complain to much.
Superslab? 5-800 miles in a day on average since I'll probably have a destination in mind. Did 1100 once just because I was on my way home after three weeks on the road. Rain coming in from behind me, was catching up to me when I stopped for gas--decided to just keep going.
Two lane with no real destination? 150-300, with one day only doing 45. That was a fun day in the hills of West VA.
Depends a lot on what part of the country I'm traveling in. East of the Mississippi, no need to travel too far between interesting sites (I'm assuming the purpose of the trip is discovery and not pounding out miles). Out here, west of the Mississippi, there are many areas it can be 150 miles from one gas pump to the next, let alone to the next point of "entertainment"! Your trip's goal will define how many miles are appropriate per day.
For me it depends on where I need to be. Usually, I plan my trips town to town. If my day is Orange County to St George, Ut then that's as far as I go. I am planning a trip to Yellowstone with my GF. I have to be mindful of far I think she can ride her Deluxe in a day. So far, I've settled on a couple of 400 milers then mostly 250 - 300 miles per day.
Only real way to find out is trial and error. Take a weekend trip and see how it goes.
