Batman, hate to be the guy that hounds you about things but you know me......... spend the 100.00$ for the fairing brackets. In 2007 they had a bad design for those brackets. I went through two and that buddy of mine went through 4 of those stupid things. With the taller windshields I ended up having to put 2 of those in because of cracks. When I traded it off the third windshield was cracked. Save yourself some grief and replace them with the updated brackets and by the cheap crome molding for the windshield, I think it is 45 bucks or so, but it did distribute the clamp force on the windshield and adds a little contrast to an otherwise dull look. The other thing that I had was the two screws at the bottom on the inside of the fairing down by the cow bells always rattled out. So i put a small dab of green lock tight on it and put them back in and was able to extract them when i replaced the brackets. Do what you want it is just a suggestion. Have not had any problems with the new bike so far.

Just my opinion ,In keeping with the "cheapskate" tradition,most 07's the brackets are still solid even with hi mileage so hold off.Also I added the windsheild trim and it put more strain on the windsheild I felt,pulled one of the backing grumits out,..took it off and painted the bolts and went for the simple clean look,just me.

If you do not buy them then in honor of the cheapskate tradition, go look at the new brackets and beef yours up the way that the did with the new design. It is a pretty simple fix, but do make a change. You have my old bracket and can see just exactly what I was talking about. Lenny just boxed two sides in and it worked great.
