I know what you mean. I have a territory that starts in Birmingham, AL goes up through Memphis to St. Louis, then up to Quincy, IL. Then back down through Springfield, MO to Tulsa and Enid, OK. Then back up to KC, MO, Lincoln, Omaha, Alliance, and Denver. I usually stop at the stealers on the way through town. One of my must stops is at St. Joe Harley Davidson. They have a custom shop and when they do a bike all the take offs end up in the used part room for about 50% off. Today I blew my budget and scored a set of Street Glide front turn signals for $75.00. They had a Vance Hines fuel pak, but I could not tell what it would fit. No part numbers or markings on it.
One of the really nice stealers is Worth HD in KC, MO. They claim to be the 2nd largest seller behind a dealer in Florida. Not sure but over 300 new bikes in stock
been to both of those dealers many times. My son is going to college in Maryville Mo. just north of St. Joe so every visit there we have to stop. Another good one is Blue Springs HD near KC. Also Mid America HD in Columbia Mo. I usally hit all of them on the road trips. Still want to take the tour of the HD Factory in KC though. Great looking project and liking the color!
I take it, that's not your garage at home? If it is, I'm jealous.
Actually it's just 100' from my back door. 2 stall attached for the cars, and 30 x 50 for me to play in. I did have yo give the wife a corner for her potting bench.
JR take the factory tour. They make VROD's & Sporty's. I used to build Kawasaki 900 LTD's in Lincoln back in '76. A lot different operation. Sorry no free test rides...
Started working on some of the road rash on the inner & outer fairings as well as a broken bag lid. Read on a crotch rocket site about using a soldering iron to melt/weld the pieces together followed ABS cement as a filler. The melting process worked well, I worked both sides of the crack on the bag lid, then ground off the melted excess. Then put on 3 or 4 coats of ABS cement to fill in the grooves.
Now I need to sand and apply another coat or two before final sand and primer.
The rash on the fairings was a little more simple, multiple coats of ABS Cement followed by some sanding.
I'll sand later this week and get the pictures up.
did i or did I not say those would look good painted? I think in the Eastwood catalog they have a "plastic welder". Its a soldering iron with a flat spoon on it with a hole in the center for pushing these little plastic sticks through to melt them into the crack your welding. Can you use regular filler on ABS? I have some Hogg Chopps that got scratched by the previous owner that needs fixin. Ive got some PPG filler left over from my last build (like 6 years old). Got a whole bunch of Omni base coat/clear too. Hope its still good. Its been in a 60 degree shop year round. Planning on spraying them with that.
Gonna be a sweet bike for sure!! For the exhaust on the cheap, check out American Custom. Reworked factory slip-ons for around $200.00. You can have them wide open, or with two different sets of baffles depending on how you want it to sound.
I'm getting a lot of compliments from my slip-ons with the mid-rumble baffles. And my bike runs great with them.
