Default Project "Cheapskate"

The snow was flying so it must be time for a winter project. I picked up an eBay wreck for a fair price, had her shipped in, road her home and started taking her apart. Quite a learning experience so far. I decided early on that I wanted a 96", six speed, and spokes, so this '07 FLHTCU fit the bill. Here are some before pictures.

Something tells me she's been road hard.

A little tweaked here.

It looks like the wheels are beyond help.

So now she's up on the bench and work has begun. More to come later.

I did the same thing,My rkc was a salvage titled. I had to do a little work on it to get it on the road, since then I've been slowly buying replacement parts when I have the money and riding it. Best of luck ebay and bike bone yards are our friends.

I built a bench out of 4X4's and purchased an ATV winch on sale at Harbor Freight for $49.99. and a wheel vise for $79.99. Total investment about $150.00 and much easier on my back.

I fabricated a rear stand out of 3/4 plywood.

I also took an old Chrysler screw jack and welded a larger base plate about 5x12 in size to it. Also welded a 1" square tube the width of the frame tubes to the top.

And keep taking her apart......

I think this is about as far apart as I'm going to go.

I've used a few cans of brake clean on the underside to get rid of all the grime. Then came back with 3M cleaner wax on the frame. I used Wizards chrome wadding to polish the rocker boxes and clean up the covers. Then used S100 to get the engine black again.
