Saturday morning, -6 degrees outside. Finally got the shop up to 60 and started in on the inner fairing.
Looked like this on the right side, road rash on the outside edge and the speaker pod area is warn down and cracked.
After a few rounds of ABS cement followed by sanding with 180 and repeat, its back to the way it should be.
I've got one last coat on drying right now, the rest of the fairing is sanded. Hopefully I'll get it in primer yet this afternoon, then tomorrow it will go into color and clear.
Yes, ABS pipe cement. It has to be the black stuff, not the clear universal. I had to buy mine off Amazon dot com. I tried all the local plumbing, hardware, and box stores. Nada. Make sure you sand off any paint surrounding the repair area since the ABS cement will not stick to it. Otherwise just brush it on, wait about 10 or 15 minutes put on another coat wait about 30 minutes and sand it.
If wasn't for trying to keep the dollar amount down it would be much quicker to buy new inner & outer fairings, but since I've got the time and need a place to fire up a stogie it's to the shop for me. The outer fairing is taking alot more fill to match up with the inner than I originally figured. Pictures later today.
Here we go with color, no clear yet. 3 coats of Synergy.
Starting to look like something. Here we go with 3 coats of clear.
This little piece was one of the most challenging items I have ever painted. Getting all around the inside of the instrument bezels without a run was a chore. Dial down the pressure and make a small pattern. Take your time. Both with color and the clear.
