Heritage Starting Problems
We checked the obvious; battery, wiring etc. and nuthin was loose. Battery wouldn't work even when jumped to another bike.
I remember a while back seeing someone have problems with the actual rotary ignition switch on the console of another softail. Does anyone have the instructions or directions on how to troubleshoot a suspected bad switch..?
Troubleshooting for ignition Switch problem is darn easy:
1.) Remove the console
2.) Unplug the Ignition Switch Connector:
- Examine the wires for broken wires
- Examine the connector for corrosion, melting , etc.
3.) Get a jumper wire (a heavy duty paper clip will do too) On the side of the Harness Connector to the Ignition Switch:
- Short the center (red wire) pin with the Red/Blak wire - Ignition Should come ON; you should be able to start the bike. Then replace the Ignition Switch (5 min job)
If No Ignition comes On when you short the Red and the Red/Black wire then the problem is in the wiring, not in the switch.
Check the Main Fuse; Check voltage at the Red wire of the Ign Switch - it should be 12V (or whatever your battery voltage is)

This may wind up being the battery (hopefully). Just wanted to be ready to help if the battery isn't the answer.
We were out riding in Utah last year on a 8 day Grand Circle ride... A gal riding a Deluxe ran into this issue. The switch was bad and her trip turned into a nightmare ... I watched the T/S process but couldn't remember the details. This is good stuff to know for later on the road.

You may want to check the sockets of the Main Fuse as well - for corrosion.
Mine original battery lasted 5 years.
