Default Lower slider question

was doing the chrome slider change using basic tools. The right slider came off without a hitch. However the left one did not. When i tried to remove the allen bolt at the bottom i can feel only the damper turning and the allen bolt not breaking loose. Anyone had this problem and awhat was the solution to remove the allen bolt? Was trying to do this without taking off the entire fork leg.

Use an impact wrench.

Not sure what you mean by this? You do have the forks off the bike right? If you are replacing with chrome lowers then I can't see how you can do that without taking the entire fork leg off.

If you have a good sharp allen wrench in there, sometimes a rap with a hammer will break it free.

+2 on using an impact wrench with an extended 6mm Allen. You do not want to mess up that bolt head!

I was undoing the allen bolts first while they where still on the bike was then going to remove the entire forks. But the one one the right would just turn and not come out. So i figure the bolt is just spinning the damper since the bolt is turning.

Sounds like you are talking about a Dyna type setup and if so ditto on the impact wrench. It is the best for busting those out.

Not sure if you are doing this or not, but compress the fork when you try to loosen it. Without the fork oil in there you should be able to compress it some to put more pressure on the damper rod.

the bike is a 2004 flht standard...i tried the compression thing didn't work bolt is still turning. Guess I will have to take the fork leg to the pros. But thanks to all that replied.
