Default 96 up to 95 down windshield?

Does anyone know if you can cut the bottom of a newer style windshield to fit a earlier faring? I need to replace the windshield on my 1990 FLHTCU and a newer style windshield is considerably less pricey than an older one. So I guess I'm wondering if the 3 mounting holes will line up with the corresponding holes on the older one. If so I can drill 2 more holes and cut the bottom so its flat.
But I don't want to buy the windshield if it won't work. But I will if I have too.

Thank you for looking.

The 3 or 5 hole shields from LRS are the same price.

the old style has the L shaped bottom piece on each side that I think is needed to brace it.

So 7 holes altogether, lining up the hardware for the trim is a PIA, new spring clips from the auto body supply shop can save time and trouble.

masking tape on the fairing the prevent paint scratches.

last one I bought for the '95 was about $70 from national cycle

I just saw that. I'm on their website now getting ready to order.
Do you have one of their windshields? How do you like it? What length would you recommend?

I just bought the bike and I have to get it safety inspected. My only 2 issues are the windshield and the brake light.
The windshield must have had been wiped with something bad. Acid or something, because it's hazed badly.
I can't figure the brake light. All ground wires and connections are clean. It won't come on with either the hand or foot brake, so I'm guessing it isn't as switch. To make things worse, I'm color blind, so wiring is not my strong suit.

the brake light wiring runs inside the rear fender---
- if the bike has been lowered or if there was a blow out, it is possible for the tire to tear up the wiring.

but a trouble light at the socket should tell you if power reaching both contacts

Thanks. I checked continuity from the fuse block back to the socket and all was good there. So I guess it's on the other side of the fuse block. Gets pretty tight in there under the seat for my big hands.
Missouri law says that if a brake light is installed, it has to work. I guess if I put an 1156 bulb in it, technically there is no brake light? They probably won't fall for that. Plus I'd really like to have the light working. Got to be more visible than my hand.

OK the '91 and '92 wiring diagrams are the same- 1990 is NOT the same see below post

I'll leave this here is case someone with a 1991 or 1992 FLHTCU is searching for brake light wiring help:

the red/white stripe wires from BOTH brake switches go to the relay terminal #86 ( so you can test for 12volt getting here when brake/ switch is applied)

the white/red stripe from the fuse block goes to relay terminal #30 (should be 12 volt here whenever the bike is on)

black is ground terminal #85 ( continuity to ground)

red is the brake light terminal 87 ( continuity to brake like socket tests the load side, 12 volt when brake is applied tests the relay)

the red brake light wire splits off the cruise control module if you have one and to tour paks brake lights

looks like the run wire is coded green- I know, lot of help that does you

terminal 87A unused

ok,

1990:

the rear brake light switch has 2 orange wires ( power) and 2 red wires- 1 red goes to the rear brake light, the other is bringing power from the front brake light when applied

you should be able to trace power and continuity from the terminals at the rear brake switch.

there is a connector block along the way, check that for corrosion

green is the power for the run light
