An intermittent loss of power is driving me nuts! Cruising along today on the interstate about 75 mph and my '05 EGC, TC 88, begins to lose power, decelerates. I can downshift, and gain some back. Shifting back into 5th gear, the minute I hit 60 mph, it begins to choke down. It also smokes a little when its choking down. After limping it home, I change out the plugs....but no help. It continues to choke down. This has happened before. I thought it was bad gas. Putting the bike in neutral, I can rev it up no problem. What in the world is wrong with my beloved Classic?
the filter is a screen on top of the petcock, so you get out as much gas as you can, then remove the petcock, the screen will drop out or may need pulling.
you can do a quick check by putting the petcock in the reserve position and see if that improves it.
other checks are swollen/degraded seals in the petcock, collapsed fuel line, junk in the float bowl, float set to low level.
From your symptoms my guess would be a clogged fuel filter or clogged fuel cap vent.
Same thing happend on my POS Goldwing (Yea;I know--it was back in the day, however)Would start to lose power at around 60 em pee aitch. Honda replaced practically every ignition & carb component & filter. I discovered the clogged fuel cap.
check for a leaking/kinked fuel hose inside of the gas tank, also the the quick disconnect at the tank may be acting up....sounds to me like a starving for fuel problem....

Same thing happened to a buddy of mine. It turned out to be that the fuel hose inside the tank had worked itself loose
