TTS tuner for 339. and 300 dyno tune from the best dyno operator you can find. No canned maps or piggyback systems for me. If your going to lay down the cash get it perfect, not close
Would you mind telling me where I can buy the TTS for $339. That sounds like a good price.
If you are having someone else install and tune the bike it is best to get what they are comfortable tuning to get the best performance. Would you want your Ford mechanic working on a Chevy? He can probably do it but it's not his specialty.
If you are tuning it yourself, TTS or PCV w/autotune will both perform well.
Like several have stated there isn't a right or wrong. The only disadvantage to the ad-ons or canned maps are they don't account for small variances bike to bike. Ive read a lot of negative on the SE tuners. My bike came with one the guy got from the dealer when he purchased new thuder slipons. I'm pretty impressed with it.. It took just a short time to figure out the dealer just put in the canned stage I map and made no adjustments for his $1200 bill. I found i had a bad MAP sensor after looking at the out put charts. It was causing the engine to make the same adjustment at 30 MAP and anything higher. You definitely would not find that by plugging in a cannned map. The SE pro tuner gives you complete flexibility if you want it but i wouldnt recommend for someone who doesnt want to mess and test, or depend on local tuner. It also has the ability to adjust beyond the stage 1-4 pre canned starting points. The smart tune mode adjusts for feedback loops that don't make sense to the ECM and give you and adjusted VE (volume efficiency) table. Air volume is the change you are trying to adjust for when you make physical changes to the bike. The ECM makes all the fuel and spak adjustments once you know what the air flow is. After you run the Smart Tune a few time you can make changes you like to AFR, Spark Advance, and several other inputs. At this point I like the closed loop standard ratios in the low load and cruising RPMs and Open loop beyond that for better performance. Its a nice mix of mileage of performance. I cant say for sure why it pulls so much harder in open loope above 3 grand and high loads but it definitely does. If you leave it in open in he cruise low load are your mileage goes to crap. You cant make those kinds of adjustments with a canned map.
I don't know Jamie and I'm sure they are top notch, so maybe they offer maps with similar balance if you aren't into messing with it.
I used a the cobra auto tune on my VTX1800 and I know the local expert likes dynojet. One makes the bike run good most of the time get poor mileage on average and the other is as good as the dyno guy.
If you want to know real torque and HP output go with what your tuner recomends. I couldnt care less what the actual HP is as long as it runs good, safe and efficient. Ive had my share of horsepower and would have stuck with the VTX or Vmax is that was the goal.
I'm learning a lot about my new Harley here reading all of your comments. 09 ultra classic with stage 1 cleaner and thunder header slip on. Ive got a the stock pipes as well for when my lady goes with me. 5 minute to flash a map i've developed with the SE tuner and I'm good to go with the other pipes.
When we bought our 2010 SEUC, changed exhaust, head pipe added stage 1 package. Dealer installed a SEPRT. Bike had a cough at 2200 rpm that their dyno tech could not tune out. After 2 trips on the dyno, still couldnt tune the problem. The Harley Dealers solution to the problem was to install a PCV!! On the dyno it makes the same HP and torque as the SEPRT did, and no cough at 2200 rpms. If you dont have an experienced tuner, the PCV's canned map runs just fine in our application.
I'm glad it fixed your hiccup and clearly its a good product or their wouldn't be this many riders supporting it.
It's clear the dealer mechanic didn't know how to use the product, didn't try, or would just preferred to sell another piece of hardware. He wouldn't even need to put it on a dyno to see which map had a couple cells way out of whack if it was runner well in every other area.
My local dealer tried to discourage me from using the SE and recommended buying a power commander. I would if it didn't work, but what lousy advise without even knowing your customer. After learning the software its clear that "some" Harley Dealers are really helping other tuner company's sales through their lack of knowledge of their own product.
