Default New guy looking for a 2009+ FLHR

Hi All,

I recently sold my Honda Shadow and am in the market for a Road King Standard.

I've done my research and have decided that I want a 2009+ model. I'll be exporting the bike to Canada so I need to buy used, which pretty much excludes any 2012's with the 103.

Were there any major differences between the 2009, 2010 & 2011 models that should affect my decision making? I'm more concerned with finding a nice low-mileage bike vs. the actual model year. From my research, the only difference I could find was related 5th gear going to a helical cut in 2010. Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance, I'm hoping to be able to join the H-D ranks soon.

Adrian

Have you considered a 2010 Ultra Limited? It has the 103 engine if that's what you want.

The O2 sensors were changed after 09, not much else.

check the classifieds here at the forums-

check craigslist for rochecter, buffalo, syracuse etc ( kajiji is not used much is the US)

also cycle trader.com has good search functions

to track model changes:

google

2009 model year technical forum

then 2010, 2011, 2012

you can track changes in models.

I have an 09- it's awesome the 103" is marginally more powerful and not worth the $2k extra it cost back then over the 96"

GET abs - it is great

the US 2009 did not have a cat in the headers- CDN and california models did.- dot may or may not have a problem with that.
there may also be minor changes in the lighting
from 2010 all touring models had cats regardless of destination market

The '11 Road King Classic also has the 103. It also has ABS standard, security system standard and oil cooler standard. I got mine "pre-owned" so they're out there.

Good luck! You won't be sorry!

Check out Robinson's Motorcycle in Wheatley, Ont. They bring up alot of their bikes from the states and usually have a pretty good selection.

Thanks for all the great tips guys.

I'm not too concerned about the 103", considering I'm coming from a Honda 750, the 96" will be a huge gain already.

ABS seems to be quite rare on the RK Standards (don't want a Classic cuz I want hard bags), but I think it's something that I want to hold out for.

One last question, I just got a lead on a 2009 Streetglide with ABS, vented lowers and a few other goodies....it has 18,000 miles on it. Anything I should be concerned about?

The 103" wasn't $2K more. The "Powerpack" with 103", ABS and cruise was $1800 more.
