I have a recurring problem...after installing new cams (203's), and a SE super tuner on my '05 EGC fuel injected TC88...the bike runs great except for an intermittent loss of power. Cruising at 70+ MPH, the bike will begin to ping badly (like my '76 Buick used to do!) and lose power. I downshift, and it picks back up. The cams and the tuner were installed by my indie wrencher. And, as usual, it never does this when he test rides it. Is this a fuel filter issue? Is it a bad injector? It's frustrating to no end!

Pull the plugs, see if you have any fouling or signs of to much or to little fuel? Could be AFR at the rpm.
K-Hook, I know you don't want to but sounds to me like you need to have it put on a dyno and see where everything is at as far as timing, afr etc. This will also show if your injectors are maxed out or a possible fuel problem.
I think it would be money well spent imo.

+1...if the indy did not dyno it after the mods the pinging could be a wide array of things; most likely AFR or timing.

Since you've taken the leap into the world of tuner performance country, your going to have to down that rabbit hole and find out where everything is with a dyno.
I would agree with a dyno tune but I would also check the fuel line in the tank they did have problem with the hose collapsing inside the tank not sure what year bike it was but worth checking

I have a '04 Ultra 88ci w/ a SE supertuner, cams, duals. The pinging probably is not a fuel filter issue, but you are running too lean. No offense to your indie, get the bike dyno'd. It may cost some $$ up front, but will save you endless time of trial and error efforts at rectifying the problem.
My bike had issues from the original owner and the dealer which did the mods when the bike was new. I spent nearly two years of time, lots of aggravation and $$ before a second dealer's mechanic figured out that one of the cams had been installed out of time. The SE tuner is great, but without having the proper setup it's easy to have incorrect settings leading to your too lean condition.
BTW-if a dyno is not readily available, go to a reputable HD shop. With the SE tuner, they will have the correct info to program it to fit your mods and get it running right.
Thanks for all the advice fellas. The loss of power and pinging was happening even before I had the cams and the tuner installed...albeit much, MUCH worse. It's still happening infrequently, but not as bad...but still frustrating..
How much $$ for a dyno test? With two in college, discretionary funds are at a premium!
Well first off what octane fuel are you running and if dyno time is required not every shop charges the same but most charge by the their hourly shop rate with a max time of 4 hrs charged. So if they spend 5 hrs you only pay 4 hrs and if they get in done in one hour you only pay one hour of labor. But make sure you are running GOOOOOOD 91 octane or better fuel
