I use the same. The only thing I have experienced is that the orientation on the screen will change if I let go of the left side handlebar. As soon as I grab the grip, it goes right back to normal
I use mine quite often. I have a ram mount that the phone clips in mounted to the hole behind the brake lever. I can even take video with it in that position. Granted I have some faring in the way but it's better than no video. No issues with the music and vibrations but video quality depends on my speed. I have interchangeable mounts from ram for my GPS also, they work great.

Not sure which version you have, but I presume you are aware that you can lock orientation?
Mine stays almost permanently locked
I'm using the iphone 4 on a custom RAM mount that I made by modifying the belt clip on my otterbox to mount up to the ram mount. It works great and I can charge and ride with the griffing itrip.
I like the looks of the riders claw and the one knewt5 posted. The ram mount looks like it sticks up like a periscope to me. I wanna find one or make one that works with a case like an otterbox
No prob with mine. Got the X Grip from Ram Mount and really love it. Most the others wouldnt work as I have a case on my iphone and wont fit into most holders
