This thing is loud"...He couldn't hear his handlebar mounted speakers over the wind noise...
I don't spend a lot of time on the four laners...... but I have spent considerable time with this shield at 80MPH or so....... There is no more and maybe less noise than the stock shield... it definitely puts the air higher over your head than the stock shield did...no head/helmet buffeting at any speed..... I do have the little deflector on the bottom of the trees and that helped with the turbulence that comes up behind the shield.... at speeds under 60MPH or so, I can wear a ball cap with the visor forward with this shield.....
And they are not crazy money either........ hope this helps.....

Keithhu...not callin ya out on this as there are others who would agree with you. Just borrowing a statement.

I never understood the reason some consider the stock shield as flimsy...as in flaps in the breeze? Breaks? Or thicker is better ... How thick does it need to be ? Coke bottle thick? What are we fending off here? Wind? birds? Deer? or are they thicker cuz it's made of a lesser grade material? Poly? Lexan vs acrylic...ect. do a search on that one !!
I don't know about the flip top, recurve, never had one although I'm sure it works for some. Alot of variables as you know when it comes to controlling buffeting and personal fitment. By no means am I knocking anyones choice after all..it's your choice. I may even try one myself one day.

I did cut my stocker down 3" and yes I do get more breeze over the shield.
I am very happy with it. I also found if I take the little visor off my helmet... less buffeting duh. I plan on picking up another one (take offs sell cheap!!) and cutting it down perhaps 1" 1/2 to 2" or even a shorty one just to have. IMO the HD Shield is plenty strong, clear, easily trimmed to fit and has the classic Road King look like no other.

Same here and since I wouldn't use it at the stock height I had nothing to loose by cutting it down. The stock windshield seems well made to me and and after more than 52k miles there aren't any problem.

When sitting normally in the seat should you be looking thru the winsheld, or over it ?

Over it. You don't want to be looking through a windshield that is covered in rain. If you set it up so you're looking just over the shield, most of the oncoming wind should go over your head.

I'M 5'11" and most stock seat/windshield setups have me looking right at the top of the shield. PITA. So, raise the bridge or lower the water. Don't buy a windshield until you've found the seat you want - JMHO.

LOL, no worries, everybody has a freakin opinion, not a big deal. Jus thought I'd share my reasoning. I thought for $100 and very little of my time I have a lower/sturdier/thicker shield with a nice flare to push the wind over my head. I'm sure everyone who managed to cut their shield down is happy, I just know I'd f*ck it up for sure. So I saved myself some time and frustration and I have a great product which I'm happy with and apparently not alone in that.

I also like the look of the flare at the top. All good.

I went with Clearview Shields for my RK. They have various sizes, both tinted or clear, plus they have a recurve which really does a great job of diverting the air up and over your head. http://clearviewshields.com/shop/product.php?id=22
