Default Do you wear protection?

I'm looking for some ideas about wearing some additional protection...and I am not talking about a rubber! at least not until after midnight.

Just trying to get some ideas about light weight jackets which offer arm and shoulder protection. I am not looking for leather, because I live in Florida. any suggestions is appreciated...

MY HD shirt looks cool, but only will serve as a compress if I go down.

I bought this textile jacket, for $74 a pretty damn good deal. It has a zip out liner, vented, etc. Reviewer feedback suggested ordering 1 size larger than you would normally order, I found that to be good advice.

Lots of good products from Cortech, Tourmaster, Olympia, etc. Well made and moderately priced. I have several of their products to include gloves.

What I gravitate to these days are multi-season textile jackets with elbow, shoulder, and back armour. The parts of the body injured most of the time in a crash is the knees and shoulders. So I even have a few pair of riding pants with knee and hip padding. I know from experience that my knees are no match for the asphalt!

Find yourself one of the jackets that have "air" in their name, plus they should have a couple of zip-out liners. One liner is to keep out the rain and wind, and the closest liner to your skin is a quilted liner for winter riding. I have a newer Cortech GX Air Series II jacket that I really like. It is a multi-season jacket. In the summer, I remove both liners and air comes right through the open fabric pattern but I still have the protection in the key areas of the elbows and shoulders. Plus I always have extra pockets for garage door openers, phone, wallet, etc.

I generally don't wear Harley branded motor clothes, never have. They have some good stuff these days, but I go a different direction. I buy my bikes from full-time bike manufacturers and my gear from full-time gear manufacturers. Same goes for my helmet and boots. Have fun shopping.

I gotta say that i've worn leather jackets ever since my first one was "free" with the purchase of a new 1983 FLH, well sorta free at the time, sounded good anyways, but the next riding jacket i buy will not be leather, i just don't find them comfortable at all, the new materials these days are much more comfortable and provide tons more protection, thats what i'll go with.

I like the H-D 3 in one nylon jackets.

basically a jacket with mesh panels and shoulder/elbow armour.

and heavy nylon that zips over the mesh areas

and a rain liner.

works great in dry/kinda wet

and good temperature flexibility.

and the lighter coloured versions will reflect a fair amount of sun radiation

For warm weather riding I use Danise vented fabric jacket with arm, shoulder and added back protector. Very light and comfortable. Very good ventilation and I think it looks good too. Not cheap but quality and design of protection and comfort make it worth while. Made in Italy, not china!

I live in S. FL. also, so I know how you feel. I have a HD mesh jacket that I wear most of the time, has a removeable liner and pads. Also check your local Cycle Gear store, they always have a sale on brands like Icon and Bilt.
