I see that there has been no activity on this thread for over two years?

I would like to start some new thoughts and opinions about upgrading from the stock Harley shocks to something significantly better for due cause. My first bike was a year ago April I went with a 2011 FLHTK with 2500 miles on it. When I first learned to ride it I sincerely thought that the ride was good. When riding two up as I do 95% of the time I would need to make sure that I had 50psi in my stock system or I would for sure hear the wife bitch and complain that the bumps hurt.

Now after 15,000 miles and my first trip from Michigan to West Virginia with all of the twisty and poor roads through Ohio I defiantly believe that I need a better suspension. Every time I go into the Harley dealer they say hey you should ride a 2014 as they ride so much better and to be quite frank I am sick of hearing it. I like my 2011 and even with all of my upgrades I am still into it cheaper than a 2014 and my bike is cleaner than a new one. So I am thinking I can improve the ride to better than stock even over the 2014 models.

At first i was looking at the Progressive 971 remote reservoir shocks then I read on this form that the Ohlins are the way to go but this is an old thread. I've talked to Harold and he says that my style of riding would call for a adjustable shock. I also talked to Progressive and they recommend the 444 HD shock. I'm thinking the Ohlins #6 would serve me a lifetime and I do currently have the cash.

Please let me know your thoughts and opinions on this topic. I do not mind spending the money but which shock would be the best for the money? I ride two up 95% of the time no cargo during the week and fully loaded on weekends. I like the twisty roads when I can find them. My inseam is 34 and I weigh 170 and my passenger is 120 dripping wet. Cargo on the weekends is all I can cary including two SLR Nikon cameras with lens probably 25 pounds in camera equipment or so plus the normal weekend clothes and heavy leathers for cold weather riding.

I personally have owned Progressive 940 , Ricor , Ohlins #3-#3 , JRi B and Ohlins #6 . There is no comparison with the Ohlins #6 to anything else , if your budget allows it you won't regret buying them ever.

So far this will be my plan.

You won't regret it , they are super smooth and easily adjustable for when you are fully loaded for trips , if I would have bought them first I would have saved a lot of money

I currently have 940s but still get that bottoming bang when riding two up. My girl keeps complaining about her back. Who has the best prices on Ohlins? I may have to look into changing. What is the recommended front setup also? 12 FLHX

Gungho, shocks are a very popular topic in here and fresh threads about them get started frequently, so it's no surprise that many of the older ones fall by the wayside. You'll find there are many in which Howard and his Ohlins/JRIs get compliments from members. Yup, I'm another happy customer!

Chip,

I can't answer your question about best prices, but best service is quite another matter! Save yourself time and effort by calling the legendary Howard you see mentioned here, of HDF sponsor Motorcycle Metal. He may offer you the choice of Ohlins or JRI brands and will ensure they are set up for you and your girl. Mrs B and I have his Ohlins and have NEVER bottomed out while riding with them.

I ordered mine yesterday. After talking with Howard we decided that I needed the #6 but without the reservoir. My most important issue was to not hurt my wife's back. I can stand the rough ride but if Momma ain't happy......well, you know.
