If you're complaing about how much the dealer charges....learn how to do it yourself. If you pay attention to the sales, you can get 5 quarts of Mobil 1 15w50 and a Mobil 1 filter for around 32-33 dollars. Or a change with non-syn motor oil for 1/2 that.
Time to change the oil on the SG so I went to the dealer to buy the 4 qts of oil (NON-Syn) and a black filter. I almost choked when they told me the oil was now $8.50 (incl tx) a quart! The total for all would be around $45.
For the heck of it I asked what they charge if the service dept. did the work, hold on to your shorts, they want $100 plus tax!! Are they out of their minds?
My car takes 7 qts of oil and I get the oil plus filter changed for $52.
I'm tired of being raped by the dealer.
Automobile 20W-50W costs $4.95 a qt. at my local parts store. Although my understanding is that MC oil has some different additives compared to car oil but I can't understand why MC oil should cost almost double.
Sorry to rant but I just had to get it off my chest. It is what it is and we are not going to change it.
It's really a shame what's going on with the economy in this wonderful country.
.
Agree, I get the Oil,Filter,Lube service at dealer for my truck , semi-syn and it's still under $40.00. I use Kendall GT-1 HP 20W50 in the bike, $3.00 a qt, I do use the overpriced HD filter because I think it's a very good filter. If I thought HD oil was better I would use it.
HEY YO! Be glad its $8.50!!!! Here in Cali its 11.99 a quart and not to mention the 9.75 state tax.....and I buy it anyway lol ;p so next time your upset about spending the cash on an oil change think of me bro. But seriously I know how you feel it does seem like rape everytime you walk into a dealership to buy anything.....including a bike lol.
I hate getting raped also so I do my own work...at least what I feel comfortable with. Fluids are all me. I wanted new cams. Bought them, read up online about the install and did it myself. If I got stuck I came here for help. I've saved thousands by doing it myself....and I know my bike better than anyone.
Labor charges are always going to rape you...whether it is vehicles or household work. Do it yourself and save the wallet.
I paid 77 for 12 quarts of regular harley oil. So I bought 2 cases $154 with tax and a few filters on sale too. It was 20 percent of off the 7.49 they charge per quart. But I should be good now for some miles
This topic always cracks me up because I think the same way...What? 8.50 for oil? Are you kidding me...True duel exhaust - 1,000 bucks with labor, ok...My wife laughs at me when I do that kind of stuff..I do as many basic things as possible..
When thing are beyond my skills, off to my local indy...He only charges 65.00 an hour..
Ran 30 weight Quaker State in Pan Head changed filter and oil juster kept marking its spot. Old police bike with no speed o or mileage keeping device. Kick and go.
