You see this is part of my point, you just stand there and take whatever is dished out. that's where you and I differ!

Wasn't aimed at you my man. Was a general statement to the forum world. Put your defenses down a little bit. From the attitudes seen from members of this forum I can probably say with great confidence (once again not directed towards you) that there are a number of people here that will treat someone that way.

And you're right I do stand there and take it because for every dick head I've dealt with over the past decade there are many more fantastic people that I've made into good friends and riding buddies. I also make the choice not to be an ******* in return because it does nothing more than escalate an already ignorant uncalled situation.

H-D oil is expensive and I know this. I'm not going to argue that point at all.

At least I can thank you for your response not being a novella like the prior.

You have a shitty *** attitude newbie! Do everyone a favor, keep your yuppie BMW, and your shitty Vtx, and sell your Harley to someone who will be a little more friendly to a brother who's a little frustrated not with the cost of oil so much as the dealerships raping you every single chance they get. And Harley oil is the same Walmart oil....so he has a legit beef. Why your stupid comment and sarcastic have a great day post struck you as needed , necessary or proper is beyond me.

I simplified it for you...didn't wanna toast the last remaining brain cell....I couldn't live with myself knowing I might destroy the part of your brain that you need to use to open the drag specialties catalogue or god forbid its the brain cell you use to one finger the keyboard when you screw the next victim that strolls into whatever hole in the wall shop you work at.

3.5 quarts of oil @ $8.50 = $29.75 plus a ~$15 filter comes out to around $50. And the stealer wants over a hundred for an oil change. $50 bucks for changing oil seems to be a little excessive.
I don't think many of us here expect something for nothing but do like to get out money's worth from time to time which is why I do my own service and the stealer only sees my bike for warranty work or something I can't do.
BTW....my Cummins turbo diesel takes 12 quarts of oil and a complete service (which includes much more than just an oil change) comes in at less than 80 bucks. That's why the dealer does the truck and I do the scoot.

Just my 2 cents.
complete service = changing oil & filter and some underpaid grease monkey topping your squirters off with water and checking the air

The only Harley oil I ever used was in a bike that I bought new back in 2004 and that was drained after 200 miles. I have never bought the filter either. Bosch 3330s always served me well.

To the OP, Go pick up some Valvoline VR-1 if you want some good dino oil. I have always used Redline or Mobil 1 but there are many good oils out there. Rotella is also a good oil and has a great add pack. Do some research. I have belonged to an oil forum for many years now and have learned a lot about oil. I have to laugh when someone says to make sure and buy oil that was designed for an air cooled engine. What a bunch of hyped up sales trash.

Well now that we can get back to the thread.....doing the oil change is no rocket science....but there's plenty of good oils out there, everyone smart enuf to do it themselves has usually figured out and decided a favorite. Next time I switch oil filters and drain the oil I'm using Mobil 1 full synthetic 20 w 50 three qts......and 1 qt of Lucas oil stabilizer oil....20 w 50

In reality, the weight 20w50 is the most important...pick any major name brand of synth or conventional and your fine....they're really all about the same....studies show that the most expensive synthetic has no major different additives or ingredients that in an of themselves provide mor protection than their leading competitor.

I strongly urge everyone to invest in a decent set of craftsman tools....the 98 pr 120 pc set is usually enough to work on most basic Harley maintience jobs, and then book mark ehow.........ehow has the instructions to perform most regular maintience jobs be even the entry level novice. Once enough people do this the stealerships might feel enough of a dent to lower their insane rates and maybe tone own the gouging.

So joboo according to your math HD oil is now $21 a qt? Your buying mobil1 at 7.00 and the HD crap is priced 3 times higher!

If you think HD parts are over priced you should get out of you little bubble and check out what other brands are doing to thier customers. My dad owns a Spyder, you think Harley owners are getting raped?

$45 is not going to break the bank, it's a matter of principal. Do you really think that a qt of HD oil is worth $8.50? If you say "yes" then I will assume you are of the younger generation. I, on the other hand, have been riding for almost 50 years, probably longer than you are old. I have learned to appreciate the value of a dollar since I have grown up with an entirely different perspective. I can't say that I blame you for your point of view since I have a son in his late twenties who also would be willing to pay without complaining simply because he is growing up in a time where prices are outrageous so to him it's normal.
Are you happy, for example paying $4+ for a gallon of gas? Just because I can afford $45 doesn't mean others would not struggle to come up with that small amount. As long as we continue to pay we make it harder for those who can't.
I don't want the oil for free as was stated I simply want to pay a fair price. We are being gouged! Do you enjoy it?
You're absolutely right here, Streetrunner. The cost of $8.50/Qt. for HD dino oil at the dealer was a ripoff, pure and simple. Yes, it's not the $45 that is at issue, it's the HD stealership assuming you are dumb enough to pay for that, or $100 for a simple oil change for that matter. My thinking is exactly the same-I am willing to pay a fair price in return for a quality product or service. My prior experiences at HD dealerships lead me to avoid them like the plague. Whether you have an old $4000 Sportster or a new $25,000 EG Limited, paying double or triple what a product/service SHOULD cost is unacceptable.

I choose to use Redline lubricants in all three on my '04 Ultra. I am willing to pay the premium price because I choose to do so after doing research on it and factoring in the incresed oil change intervals. I still shop for the best price and low/no cost shipping even so. I work hard for my money, and don't want to just give it away for no return.

You were correct in observing that some people posted just to flame you on this, but then they just don't get it, do they?
