wiggle ???
WOW!!! I can't believe I stumbled into this thread.
First off, this is the first I have heard of the Harley "Weave". Most thread are about the "wobble" and I bet quite a few weaves get confused with a wobble.
I have experienced this several times on my 12' Ultra. Up till this last weekend, i chalked it up to that's just how the Ultra handles. I am use to it never been too concerned about it.
But apparently what I feel when it happens and what people behind me see are to very different things.
last Saturday the Wife and I rode 2-up to go meet family across town for dinner. My Sister was following us in her truck. There is a long sweeping right hand elevated and slightly banked turn coming off I-45 south on to Beltway 8 west.
I took it at at the top end of what I consider average speed for this turn. I was not pushing it hard at all.
I felt what I have felt many times on this bike. It feels like there are a series of dips in the road perfectly spaced and it's kinda like a rhythm. Kinda like the suspension is bottoming out in the rear and causing that weird uneven suspension bounce.
So I thought just like before, that the weight of me and my wife (we are at the upper weight limits of the bike but not over ), was causing the suspension to bottom out and flex the frame slightly and that is what I am feeling.
I never thought of it as a "weave" or a wobble.
But 30 minutes later when we all got to the restaurant, my sister said something that kinda freaked me out. She asked how come it looked like my rear wheel was wobbling side to side and making the bike weave like it was?
Ummmmm what? I did not feel what she described but it was obvious enough to her that she thought about it all the way across town!
Up till I read this thread and saw that video of the trooper test riding the weaving Harley, I thought she was just not use to actually watching a bike take a curve and she saw something that was not that out of the ordinary.
I think I am going to take that same route again at the same speeds and have the wife follow me and video this. I would like to see if it really is weaving as much as I have been told it does.
Also, I checked my air before I left the house. I run 40 front and 40 rear cold. I know for a fact my pressure was good because it checked good 2 days after when I checked it again. And I run 40 psi in the rear shocks.
Very interested thread this is! I am subscribed!
