Motorcycles are no fun riding in the rain, having abs is just one less thing to worry about when caught in the rain. For some reason I've been caught in the rain alot lately.........
This is my first abs equipped bike, which I ordered new with abs
and I'll never own another bike with out it, regardless what the experts claim
I just traded my '11 SG for a '12 with ABS. There's nothing wrong with the extra peace of mind. I wanted it orginally and got a good deal on the '11 without it. It just kept gnawing at me, so I just pulled the trigger and got the one I wanted with all the options including ABS. Remember one thing, you can't add ABS to your bike after the fact. Think long and hard about it before making the decision. Good luck!
Four guys on baggers come over a hill on a road we have never ridden. At the crest of the hill is a sharp right turn and the road surface is full of dirt from a farmer pulling out of a muddy field and onto the road. We hit the binders and try to make the turn without sliding out. Three guys have ABS and negotiate the turn, one guy doesn't have ABS and he's straight off into the field. Battered ego, but not hurt. He will be getting ABS. And new underwear.
My first Harley. Used bike, get what ya get. Ive heard alot of people say "get ABS"
But "you get what you get" on a used bike.
Luckily it came with Cruise, Security and ABS.
I was not a fan of the abs. Never liked abs on cars. When I bought my UC, it had abs, but I purchased it anyway. That abs saved my butt about 6 months ago.
I was coming down a 4 lane divided highway, speed limit 65mph. It was a late BEAUTIFUL early fall evening. Zero traffic, so I was just cruising down the road, not paying total attention (stupid I know). Mostly looking at the star filled sky. I noticed a movement, and looked ahead. About 200 feet in front of me was around 10 deer. YIKES!!! I grabbed a hand full of front brake, and stomped my size 11 boot on the rear brake. That abs engaged, started clicking and clacking. I came to a safe stop. If not for the abs, that wouldn't have turned out nearly as well. The only damaged I suffered was a permanent pucker hole on my seat.
I will always have abs on bikes in the future. At least when available.
Yeah, while ABS is a good thing, think how many have made it all these years w/out it.
The Brembo brakes are nothing short of stellar IMO.
Hell, I used to know guys that had to ride w/hardly any brakes and had to calculate for that.
Maybe, some of you guys can remember those days?
Maybe not?
We have all put many miles on without it, but is it a positive safety feature? I say yes. Cars windshields at one time were made from sheet glass. If a big enough rock hits it and a shard of glass would cut through your skull like a sword. I for one welcome the laminated glass, ABS and many other safety features.
So, what's your point?
Maybe you could get a Gold Wing too, I hear that they come with Air Bags?
How about that?
I'm not knockin' ABS.
my point was simply that since we have made it this far without it, doesn't mean one should not consider it as a worthy safety addition. That's all. And no, choosing between ABS or no ABS, and choosing between HD bagger or Gold wing is not a equivalent scenario.
