2011 Street Glide- 1st Ride
After a minor setback (surgery) since I purchased the bike in January, I was finally able to pick up my bike and, with a little help from my friends, ride it home (147 miles).
The bike is stock. I added a King TourPak prior to pick-up at Brian's HD in Langhorne, PA.
I have been riding for 16 years, previous bikes were:
Suzuki DR650
Suzuki Bandit 1200
Aprilia RSV 1000 Mille
So as you can see this is my 1st HD/Touring bike......my impression-
The bike is simply beautiful to look at. When you get it alone (away from other Harley's) you realize how big it is...low, long....The King Tourpak makes it look Full-Dresser. The bike FILLS up space. Attention to detail and fit/finish is impressive...nothing looks cheap with the exception of the inner fairing but you do not notice unless you are looking for something to criticize.
Controls are intuitive and after a few minutes I had complete command of the radio and cruise controls.
I found the riding position extremely comfortable but I come from the Italian Sportbike world so I would find an Iron Maiden comfortable.
The stock seat and handlebars are just right for my 5"11" 180 lb. frame.
As for the wind buffeting that we all read so much about- I agree...under 65 MPH, I did not see it as an issue.....70 to 90 MPH it was an issue.....since I will be generally traveling at 70 to 90 MPH I am going to opt for the Klock Werks 6.5" windscreen in the near future.
Power was smooth and reliable as was the tranny. Clutch feel is just right.
After coming from a V-twin Sportbike, I was surprised at the lack of engine breaking. The brakes did actually stop the bike but I need to reacquaint myself with using a rear brake pedal...That's a "me" problem.
I do not know what the Air pressure in the shocks is set at from the dealer and and will dial it in but I think that the suspension is in need of an upgrade...other than the wind at speed it is the ONLY other flaw of this otherwise impressive touring motorcycle. I will definitely be ADDING AIR but looking to upgrade to nitrogen shocks ASAP.
Prior to pick-up I had already obtained 4" Rinehart Slip-ons which will be my only upgrade this season. I decided I like the football and may keep it when I do my Stage One w/ Power Duals next season.
1st big trip is in early June- PA to TN via the Blue Ridge. Dragon and Cherahola Skyway.
See you on the road.
Enjoy that new scoot!
