2012 Road King with stock handle bars has a riding position, as most people know a bit of a forward lean. I am asking for any opinions on what handle bar combination would better suit a more upright or even laid back position, Reduced Reach or Mini Apes (10). I am 5 8 any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
I replaced my stock 2011 RK bars with Wild One Chubby 10" Mini Apes. I love em. You will have to extend the wires (I used a NAMZ kit). They say you don't have to replace the clutch cable if you reroute it, I wound up putting a +6" cable on. The brake lines are fine. You also run the wires inside the bars so you get a cleaner look. If I had it to do over again that would have been the first mod I did on my bike.
Im 5-8" and I went with the Heritage Style Bars but I read where the regular Heritage bars moght be better. Your right about the forward lean with the stock. I was thinking maybe a taller bar would with a few moreinch reach would have been a little better but Im really close to where I want to be so it doesnt make sense to try a different bar.
Remember that if you follow the lines of the forks, taller bars will come back allowing for less reaching forward. If you like your stock bars and just want them back a bit more, risers with a bend in them work well too.
I just put the Heritage bars on. They are a little higher and come back a little as well. When I first checked them out at the dealer I didn't think they would make much of a difference but they did.
I am very please with my reduced reach bars. Held them up with Heritage bars and virtually had the same shape/bend. The difference, at the time anyway, is that the RR bars were chrome and I was able to internally wire through them, and didn't have to change out the break line or clutch cable. However, as someone mentioned, to get them comfortable for me, I did tilt them back a bit so they do not follow the line if the forks.
I'm thinking about the heritage style too, but I read someone say they are more narrow. Is it that much more narrow from stock for those that have them?
