Hi Guys,
I could have a big problem here...I changed my transmission oil to red Line heavy, in February. ....I noticed yesterday on the garage floor , a small drop of red oil... definitely red Line oil..I only read one thread where some one mentioned using red line in the tranny, could cause a leak on the rear transmission seal, especially on older models...I have a 2005 RK Custom...I have only done 500 mile since the oil change..I would of thought this was not enough mileage to wear out a seal...I would appreciate any thoughts, or similar problems..Brummie
PS bike only has 11,000 mile on it...
Don't know much about red line, I changed my chopper to royal purple tho, and lost a throwout bearing and a seal in the first 1000 miles. I ran red atf in that one since new, 35000 miles or so when I did that.
I have a 2006 SG and I had the same problem. I checked the screws on the outside of the primary and one was a little loose (screws that hold the primary to the casing on the bike). Tightened it up and the drip was gone. Can't hurt to check.

I never heard that one before but doubt its validity. Just because a seal starts to leak or a bearing goes out doesn't tie the incident to the products used in your last maintenance job. As for Royal Purple, I used it in my last bike for >100k miles with no problems and would've continued with this one had the price not gone through the roof. Both RP and RL are top-drawer lubricants, IMO.
BTW, I've used RL SPH (same red stuff) in my '07 for about 3˝ years and 30k miles and haven't had any issues with seals. I did have a #8967 mainshaft bearing go out in '09, which isn't uncommon for '07's, but I don't blame the oil on that malady.

Good luck!

Just checked bolts they were fine....but I shined a flashlight down behind the primary, and I can see oil leaking just behind the tranny, it is definitely coming from there....brummie..
I have just shone a light behind the primary and down behind the tranny, I can see the oil coming out, it looks like the end of a shaft..so I guess. I am screwed, any body know how much will cost...brummie
