2012 e.g. classic...voltage regulator died at 4k. dealer says they are replacing regulators on the '12 touring models every week. several dealers and riders i spoke to all tell the same story. the moco probably changed suppliers to save a few bucks.
Because of multiple posts on this forum I am aware that my heated grips, seat, radio ,tires , suspension ,paint ,exhaust ,GPS , speakers, windshield , brakes ,voltage regulator and the entire 110 engine all suck .It could have been worse but the general consensus is that the transmission and cruise control are OK . I was starting to take this info to heart when I read the good news . It's not just my bike , it's the entire 2012 production run . I feel better now , misery loves company .

Reason: sp.
the 103 was first introduced in 2003 on the screaming eagle road king. then again in 2006, again on se models. in 2009, it was paired with the tri glide trike, and then was a 'powerpak' option in 2011, and standard in 2012.
i don't see anything significant with the 103 that would chew up voltage regulators. rather, i think like dan conner said, there was either a change with suppliers, or they've got something going on at their end.
Bought my 12 limited the first day the swale would let one out the door..ok I bought it before they were released for sale, just could not pick it up. No problems with it. No problems with my 09 or my 95 which I put 168 k miles on, but maybe I just take good care of mine. Probably a bad batch of regulators k which can happen. Now go ride
