Glad you're okay...sounds like it could have been a lot worse! And I like helmets!

Just a quick thought for the OP, my brother went down in 1998, and never got back up. He was not wearing a helmet, and it was "just an easy low speed slide" in a curve, maybe 15MPH. He left three children behind. If you do not think about yourself, think about your family without you, and what it would do to them. I was a LEO for 21 years, never wore a helmet until my brother died. Then I wore a helmet, I hated it, but still wore one, for my wife.

There's a good product suggestion... Stretched saddle bag guards.

I'm in Illinois... there is no helmet law at all here. Most people I run across do not wear a helmet ever... wouldn't be seen wearing one. I do wear a half helmet most of the time. And I've had more than a couple of people go "Oh, you're one of those guys... " when I'm putting on my helmet. WTF is that?

Glad you and the wife are OK! I took a spil on St Patty's day with the wife on back (just bought an 04 Road King, sold the sporty). Simple turn as well going about 20mph or so, no helmate, no jacket, no boots just some good ol levis and a t-shirt. Lucky for us all we walked away with was some road rash from the elbows down and the wife had to get stiches in her foot (bike feel on her) I think we wlaked away wore than the bike (Engin gaurd saved it ALL) Things could have been WAY worse and all we could think about was the kids. I am not saying I will be wearing full leathers and boots all the time but a helmate will be worn from now on!

So when I went down I had jitters for a few rides but I'm over it now, how are you felling?

Ride safe and hope you heal soon so you can get back on two wheels!

Maybe because he had a right to do so...

Even when I was younger and went without a lid, I would NEVER put a lady on the back without one, definitely not my wife.......but your choice. Glad you and your wife are OK.
Gun? It's a right.................

Glad to hear the injuries were minor.

Besides the helmet, long pants and jacket, my wife and I always wear a pair of gloves, just in case. Back way back when when I was younger and learning how to ride, I realized that a lot of falls hurt my hands more than anything else. Road rash really sucks. So we have invested in a few sets of gloves for all kinds of weather.

We have engine and bag guards on all of our bikes, we always wear helmets and boots, leathers in cool weather, and I carry everywhere I can do so legally.

It's all about safety, and the right to have some control over your own fate.

Nealry 24 years ago, I purchased a Softail Custom from a young guy who had "plugged" the rear tire but never mentioned it to me.
Due to buying the bike in late October, I only got to ride the bike once before the snow began to accumulate.
On a cold, but sunny February, I convinced my wife to take a short ride on the bike with me just around our sub-division.
As I pulled out of our drive and onto the boulevard, shifting into third at about 30-30 MPH I heard a noise similar to running over a flattened tin can, just then the back of the bike began to sway from side-to-side and then down we went.

Without a helmet, leather jackets, gloves and boots this could have been a messy event. However, the only damage...my wife had a bruise on her right hip.
