The girlfriend and I were on our way to the Miracle Ride Sunday with another couple as we made the right turn onto the street where the start was. The front tire rolled over a 4 inch bolt that I never saw. The front tire slid right out tossing the old lady off instantly, I slid with the bike for about 20 feet then watched it slide another 20 feet or so without me. Thank God it was cold we had our heavy leathers on. She has a nice big bruise on her right ***/hip and a little road burn on the meat of her hand. I sprained my Achilles tendon, small scrape on my knee. I was wearing a gun, the metal clip on the holster saved my hip from road rash but gave me a hell of a bruise.
After I checked on her and took a self check of my injuries I checked the bike. The bag guard and engine guard did exactly what they are supposed to do. The bike scooted along on the tires and guards. Not even a scratch anywhere else. I thought once upon a time about removing the bag guards good thing I didn't. My jacket had armored sleeves and they worked. Neither of us was wearing helmets so we were very lucky. No just waiting for my heel to heal so I can get back on two wheels.
Glad to hear you are both OK! I'm not trying to start ANYTHING - BUT - possibly it's time to start helmet shopping? I'm sure others will chime in with their !
Glad your both ok!
Dos'nt take much...i know....
How much damage on the bike? I'm thinking of getting the sattlebag guards or my UL, for cases like that
Freedom of Choice is cool... But after being in a nasty crash myself... Helmets are for me. I have ridden without one but just not very often anymore. I read someplace that riding without a helmet leads to premature baldness << On the lighter side >>
I know Ct is a no helmet state, but c'mon, bag guards and no head guards?
Glad you guys are OK.
Not going to preach about helmets because I used to ride without whenever i could when I was younger. This should at least make you think about it.
