I have a 2009 ultra classic. The speakers just go off I can flip the speaker switch and they will come back on. It does not matter if I am listening to the radio, cd, or Ipod. Also when I turn the bike off I may have been listening to a cd and when I turn the bike back on it maybe on the weather. Is it the radio?
I had the same problem with my 09 ultra, I called Iron cross then told me HD had a SB out about the handle bar clamp screws hitting the bottom of the radio, this vibration damages the radio. I pulled the radio and sure enough the bolts were hitting the base of the uniy. i bought the new bolts and sent the radio to iron cross for repair, no more issues.
Wish I had seen this a few hours earlier. I just got finished with new handlebars and would've looked for the screw proximity to radio. I've had a few things seem weird over the years but not enough for big concern. One, sometimes when I first turn the bike on I can't change the radio station. A block down the road and back to normal. Second, every once in a blue moon I know I was listening to a CD but the radio is on when I turn bike on. Almost like she thought I'd been listening to the CD too long and was suggesting I try the radio.

So I called iron cross and found out that the problem is internal to the radio. If the icons are changing on the face plate of the radio when you turn the switch then the problem is in the unit. Off mine goes to ironcrossaudio !
Sounds like the screws were grounding out the radio on some of your bikes maybe? On my truck I had a short in the power and ground wires that were basically causing the radio to "reset" every time they touched. I'd also check the speakers and make sure that the connections are tight on both the speaker and the radio and no frayed wires etc. If you have a +/- wire touching each other anywhere along the circuit, it could be causing the radio to "short" and reset. Hope that helps!
