Default bottom leg thread snapping clean off

I have a 2006 RKC and after a good days ride got home to clean her and noticed the left fork leg at the bottom where the spindle goes through and two bolts hold it on had sheared completely off to the extent that the wheel was wobbling in the legs

there are two 13mm or 1/2inch bolts at the bottom what hold a clamp on the foks and the wheel spindle in place and one had totally gone and i was wondering if they are a part of the leg or can they be taken out and a new one fitted ?

other than that im thinking that a specialist machine engineer can cut the thread part off and drill and tap the bottom of the leg so that a bolt can be fitted instead ?

thanks in advance
Matt

The lower legs are already tapped, hopefully you can get it to come out using a visegrip or something similar. You can use a bolt if need be, but it's better to replace with a stud.

You mean the right side? If I'm understanding this right, the threads in the forks that hold the studs have stripped? Is this correct?

If so, I think I would just buy a used stock fork leg on Ebay, which shouldn't cost much. People buy chrome legs and sell their perfectly serviceable stockers for low prices. I don't know if tapping into the aluminum at that point would compromise its structural integrity or not, but I think the small chance would be more than I would want to risk considering the safety implications of a failed part in that location.

OTOH if only the studs are affected you can replace these, as they screw into the fork legs. The clamp is held on by two nuts that screw into these studs.

i should of took pics really but the thread has totally gone as in not there anymore

the exact placement of where the nut tightens up to the bottom leg has sheared off as in like a stud snapping when you over tighten it or try to undo it

and thanks for the advice and im pleased its a stud as it looked like it was cast as a part of the actual leg

Hellicoils are also worth looking into? Cheap and solid way to fix stripped out threads if there's enough metal left
