Oil pan "Hex Plug"
To be technically accurate;
The "sump" shouldn't be holding more than a few ounces of oil..... these are "dry sump" engines....
If you removed the plug from the oil pan, the oil leaked from the pan, not the sump. There is another plug in the cases of the engine to drain the sump...
In my twin cam baggers, I put 3 quarts in, run the engine (to fill the new oil filter), and then add more per the dip stick... I don't think I've ever used more than 3.5 qts... but I also only fill it up to half-way on the stick full mark, to minimize oil into the intake through the breather valves....
