If the problem repeats- take it in for warranty service ( don't mention the power commander to the servicing dealer).
If the problem does not repeat, reinstall the power commander, look at all the pins to make sure none are bent.
set it up like from new out of the box and try again.
riding like the wind;
1.) your pal's big dogs are lighter weight bikes. get used to looking at the tail lights
( and until you sort this problem out- do not position your bike in the middle of a bunch of faster bikes- you'll get rear ended and hurt someone)
2.) you motor's torque curve is falling off above 4500 rpms. get into the next gear by 5000 rpms for rapid acceleration..
the rev limiter is used to keep the valves from poking out the top of the motor. you should not try running the motor above 6000 rpms for any length of time.
5500~5800 is a good setting, and you'll only hit it if you are not paying attention- and it'll extend the life of the motor in these cases.
Well the readings on the tach go to 8000 so if the needle stopped at 5000 then the rev limiter is doing what it is suppose to, assuming the limiter is set to 5000.
Not really. It is not suppose to shut down the bike. And if the limiter is really set at 5k then then that is too low. I believe the stock limit is around 5200? Not 100% sure the number, but pretty sure its above 5k. Most of the time when a tuner is added, the limit is bumped above 6k. My limit is set at 6200 with the SE race tuner
I keep thinking back to the comments of the OP and I'm thinking it's gotta be something with the PC. My bike is stock, and runs like a bat out of hell. I once had to get on it pretty hard to get on the highway and before I knew it, I was approaching 85 mph before I shifted to 5th gear. Seemed like it just leaped out there in a single bound!! LOL I'm thinking his bike should run at least that good, and therefore be no need to even get close to the rev limiter. So there must be something wrong in the set-up, imo.
I had the same thing happen to me several times. The latest time was this weekend I was really jumping on it and it shut down. I let the rpms go down and it still wouldn't start. I went from about 75 mph to about 20 mph before it would restart by letting out the clutch. Could this be something along the same lines as the " limp mode"? Maybe the pins on the fuel injection plug are corroated ?
