How and what to clean EG Standard engine?

Have a EG Standard with silver engine, what is a good cleaner to use, my wrench told me not to use anything with acid in it?

On my shovelhead cases, when I really wanted to get them clean I used Dawn dish soap and a small scrub brush. S-100 engine cleaner isn't bad, some will mention Simple Green, all kinds of stuff out there. Stay away from acid and ammonia based cleaners, they will dull it out big time.

I use S100 engine brightener on mine...Seems to work pretty well, just spray on and rinse off. Just don't leave it on there for very long and make sure your engine is completely cool before spraying it on.

...because many of the "plain" aluminum parts actually have a clear coat on them.

scratch the clear ( no steel wool ever on anything on the bike) and the whole thing looks like crap.

I am usually afraid to clean my engine. Anybody have electrical problems after messing around in there?

I believe the cases are actually silver powdercoated. I use Simple Green, but I am sure there is something better. Simple Green works good for my needs. I only use a wash mitt or sponge to clean the cases, not anything abrasive.
