I have been looking around and today i decided it was the day. When I was at americade i got the bug after listening to the J&M guys but way out of my $ range. I went to an audio shop and looked at some different 5 1/4 speakers but they were 4ohm. When the guy was explaining everything which still left me in the dark. He hooked up a pair and wow the head unit didnt do nothing. The sound was so low had to turn up the volume the entire way to hear anything. Then he hooked them in series but still not impressed. Yea they were 80.00 a pair but just didnt do anything for me. So off to the dealer i go, I had looked in the book at the boom speakers so i figured what the heck. I talked to the parts counter, service counter and then one guy said he just put them on his dresser. So off to the parking lot to hear them.
Well I went back to the parts counter got a full set of 4 at 20% off and home I headed. Got home took off the fairing, pulled the rear speaker and replaced everything in and back together in a llittle over and hour.
What a difference, before half volume before distortion. Now 7/8 before distortion. Very pleased with the Boom Speakers from Harley Davidson.
Yep. I'm sure there are better sprakers but I like mine. I bought the front speakers off a buddy for $60. After installing them I couldn't hear the back speakers any more so I have some coming in on Friday. I also am installing the Hogtunes big untra amp this weekend. Should be good to go after that.
Yeah, 4ohm speakers arent going to work on a 2ohm stereo very well.
Ohms are a measure of resistance. The more ohms, the more resistance. The more resistance the lesser the sound. (More/less is compared out the output of the stereo. In our case, 2ohm)
Thats just a rough primer on Ohms. Its more complex than that, but thats the jist.
How do they sound compared to the J&M Rokkers? I'm trying to figure out what to put in my FLTR fairing, and I hadn't really considered the HD upgrade because they seemed expensive for what they are.
I have had J & M speakers on my 99 Ultra from the day I got it home. Never any distortion. Even at full blast going 100 MPH down the road. Never have a problem hearing them. If they fail they have a 100% replacement policy forever! They are great and well worth the money. Sounds much better than the new Harley speaker also.
