It is a real thing, and not necessarily from high speed.
Speed has something to do with it, but more importantly something else is worn or not aligned. I rode an Ultra Classic that had it bad, it was no fun. The bike felt “loose”
I had a Honda CBX that had it bad, it was fixed by new rear shocks.
My Road King does not have the wobble and rides great on stock shocks.

If you are riding the bike and it feels like something isn’t right, then something isn’t right.

this is amazing

after all of these years, this thread is still alive, the OP painstakingly layed out, ad nauseum, every possible detail and fact he could find about wobbling

just so that after 12 years, a stranger like me could come along and say...

"**** that, I'm not reading that much!"

Was, and wasn't, a simple issue and fix, on my bike.

One is the was too loose steering head. A whole lot of the wobbling the bike had was right there, flopping easily around that hinge joint. Judicious use of arm strength damping helped a whole lot, as did a mildly tighter set to the free play. Never did install a steering damper, but it certainly could have helped.

Another was the built in oem slop in between the swing arm pivot shaft and the inner bearing inserts in the swing arm. Easily and obviously detected with the belt slack, but invisible with tension on the drive belt. That slop let the rear wheel turn side to side, with the belt acting as a rubber band. Eliminated that play and the bike never acted up again. Not on the highway, not on the track.
Got it, I had a speed wobble in the front end, tightened the steering head bearings and that took care of that. Haven't had any issues with my rear end (Buzz, never mind )

I know it's an issue that people have experienced, but like your Road King, mine rides fine. But I will add "so far" lol

And yet you felt the need to take the time and make a negative comment about it....
