As a fellow Marylander I'll confirm the salt. I ride a majority of the year and hate using my cage. Not sure cold has kept me off the bike but snow, rain at the freezing mark, and salt, definitely have. Don't see how you can get away without a cage though.
I am having trouble with how WE can help YOU with this decision though.
Id keep car. I drive a company truck but I have a 12yr old Tahoe that ive only put 30,000 miles on over the yrs because Im always on bike but it will rain. Not worth ride'n bike in rain on a reg basis to me. Tahoe sits in garage all wk long yr after yr unless I need it. Then its there.
Totally absurd. Gotta have a car. Let's face it--we love our bikes, but they are very impractical for everyday transpo.
Why don't you ask yourself this question in January? Easy to decide to just have a bike in July. And whaddaya do when the sled's in the shop, as a new Harley prolly has the same reliability as a 10 year old car...maybe even less?
Currently my bike is my sole source of transportation and has been for the last 8 months.
The engine died in my truck last Dec. and I never repaired it. Before that, I only drove it on Sundays to go the bar to watch football with the girlfriend (Yes, she watches football, she actually got me into it). Though I have been looking at Jeeps lately and plan on buying a 2013 by years end.
