Default ACR install

Has anyone had automatic or manual compression release valves installed only? When I bought my bike a 2010 electra glide classic, the previous owner had a stage 2 done on the motor, boosting it to 103 but didn't have the ACRs installed and now I'm having a banging noise when I try to start it when the motor is really hot sometimes. I was told I need to install release valves. So now I'm just wondering about the cost and what to expect. Thanks

I had ARCs installed when I did 103 and the ARCs were a total disaster to get machined and set up. But they work good now and I'm glad I had them done. Your banging may be the compensator. I had banging too, so did the SE compensator at the same time. No banging?

You might be able to save some money by installing s&s compression release cams instead or the other kit

A guy on ebay did my MCR's for 125 which included the mcr valves and return shipping to me. I have a 103 and MCR's are a must.

The banging is the compensator. I replaced mine with the SE and the banging went away. The engine was still compression locking. I put in automatic ACRs last Winter and I no longer have any problems.

The company f'd up drilling the ACRs and also ported and polished the heads too. The f'up was in my favor so I'm happy with the way that turned out.

I sent a rather terse letter to HD corporate about it and they didn't care. Dealers were told ACRs were not needed with 103s when they first started upgrading them. That is BS.

Just an update. I had the ACR valves installed by my local Harley Dealer and what a difference. No compression lock up and you can hear the difference on start up, hot or cold. Turns over so easy, you can tell the starter is not forcing anymore. As for the price. $850 including taxes, out the door. I can't complain. Thanks guys
