Default Sturgis 2012

Hey all!

Thought I would post from a locals point of view on the rally this year. So far it seems to be a big hit! Not as big as some years but I suppose the economy has a little to do with that.... Most of the guys I have had the opportunity to visit with over a cold one have been staying for shorter amounts of time and seem to be running a tight ship expense wise.

Had the chance to hit the Chip on Saturday night and had a blast! Again, not a huge crowd compared to other years but still a butt load of people compared to the other 50 weeks of the year around here!!!

The main reason for the post is I wanted to remind everyone to be on alert 24-7 around here. I hit the road yesterday around 9am and headed for Hulett WY with a buddy and came across 3 different accidents during the day. The first was shortly after the stone house bar on Hwy 34 and a guy just seemed to loose control of his bike and hit the ditch pretty hard.... No real reason I could see for the accident but then I was about 5 minutes after it happened. The guy was sitting up leaning against another that had stopped to help him and was obviously in pretty rough shape. Carried off in an ambulance and bike beyond riding.

The second one was the one that kinda ruined my day.... Rider and passenger heading west were struck by a UTV vehicle heading east. The rider of the bike and the passenger of the UTV were killed. The driver of the UTV and the passenger of the bike were transported to the local hospital for non life threatening injures. I showed up on this travesty minutes after it happened and all I can say is it made me sick to my F@@@ING stomach.... I think it had the same effect on the other several hundred bikes on the road because the last 60 miles home were pretty dam slow going and everyone was spread out quite a bit farther than normal.

Finally there was another on I-90 10 miles or so from the house. I was there quite a bit after it happened as the tow truck was lifting the last bike up on the flatbed when I went by. By the looks of the bikes..... Not good.

I really look forward to this time of the year and being able to go hit the fun spots during the rally but yesterday kinda put the week to an end for me. I don't know if its the age catching up with me or exactly what but seeing the **** I saw yesterday cannot be unseen.

I thought I would post this simply as a reminder that life is short.... Keep your eyes peeled! We have all had close calls and near misses but yesterday will hang on in me for a while Im afraid.

Keep the rubber side down my friends!

We came upon a one bike accident just east of Hulett on Friday. Pretty sure the guy was going to make it but they did call in a helicopter. I was riding with a paramedic and a nurse so they tried to help. Another rider who stopped was supposedly a trauma surgeon!

I never like to see any kind of accidents, especially one involving a bike. You just have to remember to always be alert and never let your guard down.
