Default Six speed ratios

Are the gear raitos 1 thru 5 the same on a six speed as a 5 speed?

For instance on my 5 speed I run 2900 at 70 no wind level surface. Is 5th gear the same in a six speed?

No. The ratios are higher in each gear in the 6 speeds. 07 and 08 bikes in particular. In 09 the rear pulley is 2 teeth more so overall gearing is somewhat closer to the 5 speeds but still taller.

if you google

28_RatiosMPG-pg28

you will find a chart at the andrews cam website that has ratios, and MPH vs RPM data for Harley models the past 30 years.

the 5 speed vs 6 speed depends on whether the 6 speed is an "overdrive" with a .86 final or a "close ratio" with a 1:1 6th

No they are not the same.

5th gear 5 speed =3.150

5th gear 6 speed dresser=3.407

5th gear 6 speed Dyna=3.307

Six speed info is directly from HD wedsite.

To my knowledge Harley has never made an "overdrive" trans.

6th and( 5th on a 5 speed) are 1-1,but the difference comes from the primary and final drive ratios, harley cheeped out the 6 speed it is not an overdrive, they lowered first -fifth.and made the final and primary taller.

As the engines get bigger... more HP and Torque, they are able to handle higher gears and run at lower RPM at cruising speeds.
